Penguin Group has taken another step in its commitment to workplace safety with the training of its second Emergency Brigade, recently held at the Hernandarias plant. This initiative reaffirms the company’s purpose of prioritizing the life and well-being of its employees, strengthening a preventive culture that combines technique, responsibility, and solidarity.
Miguel Alfredo Alborno Montes, Safety Officer at Penguin Group, explained the rationale behind the initiative:
“At Penguin, we fully understand the risks associated with our activity. That’s why we decided to create an internal Emergency Brigade: we need a highly trained team, capable of responding quickly and effectively when preventive measures are not enough. The main goal is to protect the life and integrity of all our colleagues,” he stated.
The brigade’s training combined theory and practice. First, participants studied the chemical origin of fire, using experiments to better understand its behavior. Later, they moved on to practical exercises with firefighting equipment.
“In the second stage, we practiced with firefighting equipment, specifically hose handling, where we learned techniques for movement, aiming, and directing water streams. This process not only provided us with technical tools but also strengthened the spirit of camaraderie and teamwork,” he added.

Safety as a Collective Value
The training goes beyond technical knowledge, aiming also to strengthen the organization’s core values.
“This training directly contributes to our safety culture because it highlights two key values: self-care and caring for others. By forming brigade members who understand the importance of prevention and mutual protection, we strengthen the collective awareness that safety is everyone’s responsibility,” he commented.
He also pointed out that knowledge about fire behavior creates a preventive advantage for all employees:
“Knowing how fire behaves allows us to anticipate it. This knowledge not only helps prevent incidents but also gives us the ability to act calmly and safely in a real situation.”

For Penguin Group, the Emergency Brigade goes beyond technical aspects and becomes a symbol of identity and purpose.
“An emergency brigade is not just a technical team, it is a symbol of commitment, solidarity, and hope. When a colleague becomes a brigade member, they are saying: ‘I am here to take care of you, so we can all go home safe and sound,’” Alborno explained.
With this initiative, Penguin Group reaffirms its message: the true strength of an organization lies in unity, prevention, and mutual care.
